Here's a look at the craziest food challenges across America.
Alabama - 55 Challenge
At Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries, you can partake in the “55 Challenge.” That means eating 55 ounces of meat on a burger bun, a minimum of four toppings, a side of fries and a soft drink in 30 minutes. If you can, your meal is on the house.
Alaska - Humpy’s Kodiak Arrest Food Challenge
You'll get a spot on Humpy's wall of fame if you can consume seven crab nuggets, 14 inches of reindeer sausage, three pounds of Alaskan king crab, several side dishes, Humpy’s famous wild berry crisp and ice cream. The challenge costs $179.99 to enter, but if you beat the record of eating it all in 12 minutes and 10 seconds, your meal is free.
Arizona - The Challenge Burger
Only the bravest of the brave go for the Challenge Burger at Lindy’s on 4th in Tucson. To win, you must finish the massive burger in 30 minutes or less without any assistance. The prize? A free meal and a spot in Lindy’s Hall of Fame.
Arkansas - Shut Up Juice Challenge
“Shut Up Juice” is apparently one of the hottest BBQ sauces in all of America. To complete this challenge, you must eat a pork sandwich with the sauce and hold it down for five minutes at The Mean Pig BBQ in Cabot. Apparently, very few are successful.
California - The Kitchen Sink
The Kitchen Sink challenge is served in a speciality sink and consists of three bananas, eight flavors of ice cream (your choice), eight servings of toppings, tons of whipped cream and chopped almonds and cherries. If you eat it all, you get free ice cream for a year.
Colorado - 7-Pound Breakfast Burrito Challenge
If you can eat Denver's Jack-n-Grill’s burrito, stuffed with 12 eggs, potatoes and vegetables, and topped with chili peppers, in one sitting, you get it for free. Women who complete the challenge get free meals for life.
Connecticut - The Bearwich
At Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ in Hartford, you can win $500 if you finish the massive Bearwich — seven and a half pounds of BBQ meat covered in a pound of coleslaw, with a massive side of mac and cheese — in 45 minutes.
Delaware - Mommom’s Ice Cream Challenge
Can you eat a Belgian waffle with four giant scoops of ice cream, four toppings, syrup, whipped cream and cherries, then wash it all down with a milkshake? If so, you can conquer this challenge at Mommom's in Dover.
Florida - Taco Challenge
If you can finish 20 hard tacos in 40 minutes at Poblano Mexican Grill & Bar, you'll get a free meal and a spot on the wall of fame.
One champion went even further and finished 30 tacos in one sitting.
Georgia - The Carnivore Challenge
Big Pie in the Sky’s Carnivore Challenge is so intense that you have to call and schedule it ahead of time. You and a friend must finish a Carnivore Pizza (weighing in at 11 pounds) in an hour or less. If you do it, you take home a $250 cash prize.
Hawaii - The M.A.C. Daddy Pancake Challenge
If you ever vacation in Waikiki, you must stop by M.A.C. 24/7 for their M.A.C. Daddy Pancake Challenge. But only if you have what it takes to devour three 14-inch pancakes in 90 minutes or less.
Idaho - 2-Pound Burger Challenge
For $23.99, you can enter the 2-Pound Burger Challenge at Big Jud’s in Boise. If you finish the burger in 30 minutes, your meal is on the house.
Illinois - The Bomb
At Paddy’s Long, any brave soul who dares to try The Bomb Challenge has 45 minutes to eat five pounds of ground beef and pork, plus a giant side of fries. If you win, you get a T-shirt, a free meal and a spot on the coveted wall of fame.
Indiana - The Maverick Challenge
If you finish the eight-pound double-decker burger at Teddy’s Burger Joint in Indianapolis within one hour, the whole thing is free.
Iowa - Triple Double Food Challenge
How do six beef patties, 12 pieces of cheese, 12 pieces of bacon, a toasted brioche bun and a double order of fries sound? How about eating all of that in 30 minutes or less? If you can, you win Brick City Grill’s Triple Double Food Challenge in Ames. Like many food challenges before it, you get a T-shirt, website fame and a free meal.
Kansas - Papa Bob’s Ultimate Destroyer
The first layer of the Ultimate Destroyer is a 12-inch bun spread with a half-pound of pulled pork. On top of that lies a half-pound of hickory smoked sliced pork, two slices of bread, a half-pound of smoked ham, a half-pound of smoked turkey breast, two more pieces of bread, three smoked hamburgers, more bread, another half-pound of smoked brisket, a half-pound of BBQ sausage and then some more sauce. To win the challenge, you have to eat all of that plus 1 1/2 pounds of fries, four dill pickles and some jalapeño peppers in 45 minutes or less at Kansas City's Papa Bob's Bar-B-Que.
Kentucky - Prisoner’s Pardon Pizza Challenge
At Jailhouse Pizza in Brandenburg, you have 60 minutes to consume 12 pounds of pizza with a friend. If you win, you’ll get your name in the Jailhouse Hall of Fame, and the 30-inch pizza is free. Even if you don’t complete the challenge, you still get a T-shirt.
Louisiana - The 15 Dozen Club
If you can eat 15 dozen oysters in one hour at Acme Oyster House, the oysters are half-off. If you beat the record-holder, the oysters are free.
Think you can beat the “leader of the house,” Pat Bertoletti, who ate 44 dozen oysters in July 2015? That's 528 oysters.
Maine - The Summit Sundae
At the Appalachian Trail Cafe in Millinocket, Maine, you can try to finish a giant sundae in one sitting. The dish includes 14 scoops of ice cream and a bunch of toppings, including a doughnut.
Maryland - The El Toro Grande
At Blue Agave in Maryland, you have the chance to devour the El Toro Grande, a monster of a burrito that takes several people to roll. It’s filled to the brim with chicken, beef, veggies and two jalapeños. All you have to do is eat the entire thing in 30 minutes or less. No sweat!
Massachusetts - Eagle’s Deli Challenge Burger
If you’ve ever dreamed of eating a towering burger, then head over to Eagle’s Deli in Brighton, Mass. If you can eat all five pounds of burger, 20 pieces of bacon, 20 pieces of American cheese, five pounds of fries, a single deli pickle and drink a fountain soda, you’re bound to become a Northeastern legend.
Michigan - The DC Challenge
At Dog Central in Mt. Pleasant, you can enter the DC challenge and find, as the website puts it, either “fame or shame.” You have 25 minutes to eat three foot-long hot dogs with chili and your choice of two toppings, an order of fries, onion rings and a 20 oz. fountain soda. You get your meal for free if you win, and you get a bonus of $10.
Minnesota - Pho-King Champ Challenge
If your wardrobe is missing a shirt that says “I Am The Pho-King Champ,” then head on over to Saigon Restaurant in St. Paul to down 10 pounds of pho in 45 minutes. You’ll join the ranks of the champions who enjoyed a bowl of pho bigger than their heads.
Mississippi - Monster Burrito Challenge
If you can devour the Monster Burrito, nachos and salsa from Alumni House Sports Bar and Grill in Peal in 15 minutes, you'll score yourself a T-shirt.
Missouri - Mama’s Pasta Challenge
Mama knows best, especially when it comes to food. At Mama’s on The Hill, you must eat a giant bowl of spaghetti and the largest homemade meatball on “The Hill.” If you finish it, you get your very own Mama’s T-shirt and the meal is free.
Montana - The Whole Enchilada Challenge
At Karmadillos Southwestern Cafe in Helena, you can quite literally have the whole enchilada. If you can finish this four-pound beast of a meal in 30 minutes or less, the entire meal is on them.
Nebraska - The Stellanator
At Stella’s Bar & Grill in Bellevue, the Stellanator consists of six burgers, six fried eggs, six pieces of cheese, 12 pieces of bacon, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, pickles, jalapeños, peanut butter (yes, you read that right) and an order of fries. You have 45 minutes to eat the entire thing. Only 4 percent of people who try actually win the challenge. The reigning champ finished the burger in 3 mins and 40 seconds.
Nevada - Inferno Curry Challenge
If you’ve got a high tolerance for spicy food, then head over to Mint Bistro in Las Vegas for their hotter-than-hot curry challenge. It happens every year in October. If you finish the bowl of intense curry, you get on the wall of fame, plus a $50 gift card to the restaurant.
New Hampshire - Feedbag Challenge
At KC’s Rib Shack, patrons can literally have a shovel full of food. Finish all of it and have KC’s Rib Shack glory forever.
New Jersey - The 8th Wonder of the World
Clinton Station Diner serves a burger so monstrous that it almost doesn’t seem real. The burger in question weighs a whopping 105 pounds. It costs more than $400 to buy the burger, but if 10 people can finish it in under an hour, you'll win $5,000.
New Mexico - Travis on a Silver Platter Challenge
At K & I Diner in Albuquerque, there is the infamous Travis on a Silver Platter Challenge. It features an eight-pound burrito smothered in cheese and covered in about two pounds of fries. If you can finish it in one hour, it's free.
New York - The Graveyard Burger
At Wagon Train BBQ, you can try to finish the Graveyard Burger in 30 minutes for fame and glory. It costs $36, and includes a pound of angus beef patty, four slices of cheese, two fried eggs, six slices of bacon, eight ounces of pulled pork, eight ounces of beef brisket, eight ounces of coleslaw, eight ounces of mac and cheese, “onion tanglers,” jalapeño bottle caps, onion rings and french fries.
North Carolina - The 24-Inch Pizza Challenge
At Ruckus Pizza, you can take on a 24-inch pizza. You have one hour to eat the entire thing, which consists of two meats and two veggies. If you complete the challenge, you get a T-shirt that says, “I am The Ruckus!” and a $100 gift card, plus the pizza for free.
North Dakota - Pig Out Omelet Challenge
The Pig Out Omelet at Mr. and Mrs. J’s Restaurant is made with an entire carton of eggs, plus a bunch of home fries and some toast. You’ve got to finish this dish in under an hour if you want to consider yourself a challenge champion.
Ohio - The 110 Reuben Challenge
The rules are as follows: Pay $19.99 and clear over a pound of corned beef, a giant potato pancake, a huge pile of sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and a giant bun off of your plate. Finish all that and a jumbo order of sliced pickles on the side, and you get your meal for free, a T-shirt and a spot on Izzy’s Wall of Fame.
Oklahoma - Chicken Fry Challenge
At Kendall’s Restaurant in Noble, you can take on the Chicken Fry Challenge. You have one hour to eat a salad, a huge chicken-fried steak, your choice of mashed potatoes or fries, green beans, biscuits and cinnamon rolls. Those who can polish it off get a T-shirt and a free meal.
Oregon - Great Balls of Fire
At Salvador Molly’s in Portland, the challenge requires you to consume five habanero cheese fritters with all of the sauce. If you can, you get your picture on their Hall of Fame.
Pennsylvania - The Cheesesteak Challenge
At the famous Jim’s Steaks in Philadelphia, you can enter the challenge to see how many cheesesteaks you can eat in one hour. The prize? Free cheesesteaks! In 2014, Bob Shroudt set the record of 20 steaks in 60 minutes.
Rhode Island - Nacho Mamma’s Burrito Challenge
Nacho Mamma’s Burrito Challenge in Bristol allows you 30 minutes to finish five pounds of your choice of pork, chicken, or beef with rice, beans, lettuce, cheese and your choice of vegetables. Oh, and it’s wrapped in three burrito shells.
South Carolina - Peaches Corner Challenge
At Peaches in Myrtle Beach, if you can finish one Peaches double stacker, one foot-long hot dog with mustard, chili, onions and slaw, one large order of chili cheese fries and a single extra-thick peach milkshake, it's all free.
South Dakota - Sugar Daddy’s Grand Slam Challenge
For Sugar Daddy’s Grand Slam Challenge in North Sioux City, you’ve got to finish a burger that weighs three pounds. Plus, it's covered in lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheese, BBQ sauce, onions and pickles. Then, you have to finish a full order of chili fries. Devour all of that in 22 minutes and you’re a champion.
Tennessee - Kookamonga Challenge
You have 60 minutes to finish the entire Kookamonga burger, all 12,000 calories of it. The challenge includes polishing off a four-pound burger, two pounds of the bun, and 1 1/2 pounds of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and cheese. If you’re counting, that’s more than seven pounds of food.
Texas - The 72-oz. Steak
Serious eaters only. For The Big Texan’s 72-oz. Steak Challenge in Amarillo, you need to eat shrimp cocktail, a baked potato, a salad, a roll with butter and the 72-oz. steak in one hour. The cool thing about this challenge is that prior to the clock starting, you can bite into your steak to make sure it’s cooked to your standards.
Utah - The Kitchen Sink Challenge
At Angie’s in Logan, you'll have to tackle a gigantic banana split that consists of more than a half-gallon of ice cream, two whole bananas and three toppings of your choice. And yes, it’s actually served in a kitchen sink. If you finish everything, you get a bumper sticker.
Vermont - The Green Mountain Feast Breakfast Challenge
If you can eat six eggs, six pieces of bacon, a double order of toast, a double order of home fries, six pancakes and two pieces of French toast in 30 minutes or less at Pittsfield's Original General Store, you get the meal for free.
Virginia - The Farm Challenge
To conquer Newsome’s Restaurant's food challenge, you must consume about five pounds of food, which is broken up into three parts of the “farm.”
First up is “The Barn,” which includes two burger patties, two slices of provolone cheese, two slices of American cheese, two chicken fillets, 10 slices of bacon, two fried eggs, a third pound of Virginia Honey Ham and then lettuce, tomato and mayo. Next up is “The Field,” made up of more than a pound of Newsome’s Famous Fries and a half-pound of cheese sauce. Finishing up the challenge is the “Just Because,” a 32-oz. milkshake.
Washington - The Loose Wheel Burger Challenge
According to the Loose Wheel’s website, the record for this challenge held in Puyallup hasn’t been broken since 2013, when a patron ate all of the food in 9 minutes, 57 seconds. It’s a beast of a burger and includes a side of potatoes the size of “big rig pistons.” Also, the bun of the burger is actually two grilled cheese sandwiches. You have to eat the meal in 25 minutes or less.
West Virginia - The Toughman Challenge
At Tanners Tavern, you have 45 minutes to finish 24 wings, one order of bacon cheese fries, one order of BBQ pulled pork potato skins, a pitcher of beer and a shot of Fireball whisky. If you don’t drink alcohol, you can replace with soda, and you’ve got to keep everything down for 15 minutes to win.
Wisconsin - The Unforgiven Challenge
Featured on the Travel Channel’s Man V. Food Nation, the Unforgiven Challenge at The Red Rock Saloon consists of a half-pound burger topped with cheese and bacon, a deep-fried chicken breast, another half-pound burger topped with more cheese and bacon, a fried egg, lettuce, tomato, fried onion rings, one pound of beer-battered fries, and six TCB Ghost Pepper Wings.
Wyoming - Ring of Fire Challenge
For the Ring of Fire Challenge at JC Burgers & Catering, you have to consume two pounds of french fries and two pounds of beef patties on a pound of buns topped with a quart of green chilis and jalapeños. If you can in 30 minutes, you get one free meal a month for six months.
