As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially choose Claire Ptak to bake their wedding cake, here's a look back on royal wedding cakes throughout the years.
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge
The couple asked local baker Fiona Cairns to create the main royal wedding cake, which was a fruitcake. Cairns wrapped each layer in brandy-soaked cheesecloth before letting it age for a few weeks ahead of the April 2011 wedding.
Princess Charles and Princess Diana
Princess Charles and Princess Diana also had a traditional fruitcake for their wedding. The multi-tiered cake was made by David Avery, the head baker at the Royal Naval cooking school, for the July 1981 wedding.

A guest at Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding kept a boxed slice of the wedding cake and it was displayed at the Stafford Hotel in London in June 2015. It was later auctioned off for $1,375.
Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip (Duke of Edinburgh)
The wedding cake for then-Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip's November 1947 nuptials weighed in at 900 pounds. The cake was produced by McVitie & Price, had four tiers, and stood at nine feet high.
Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones
The cake for their 1960 wedding was five feet tall, 150 pounds, and marked by three hexagonally paneled tiers. The sides of each tier had the couple’s monogram.
Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips
The couple had a five-tier cake for their November 1973 wedding. The entire wedding cake was said to be made exactly five-foot, six-inches tall, the same height as Princess Anne.
Prince Andrew and Miss Sarah Ferguson
The cake for the 1986 wedding was a lavish six-tiered traditional matured English fruitcake. It was decorated with more than 10 layers of royal icing patterns and adorned with a cascading trail of fresh flowers.

A slice of cake from their wedding, sealed in a monogrammed box, was put up for auction in Beverly Hills, Calif., in 2015.
King Hussein and Queen Dina of Jordan
Queen Dina of Jordan was the first of four wives of the late King Hussein. At their 1929 wedding in Cairo, the couple can be seen cutting their massive cake that resembles a tower.
Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco
The five-tier cake at their 2011 wedding paid homage to Princess Charlene's roots as it was adorned with Proteas, South Africa's national flower.
Prince Hamzah and Princess Noor of Jordan
The 2004 wedding had a simple four-tier cake with flowers. The couple, unfortunately, divorced five years later.
King Constantine and Princess Anne-Marie
The kingdoms of Denmark and Greece united in 1964 when these two married. Their wedding cake had five tiers and looked rather elaborate.
Prince Rainier III and Grace Patricia Kelly of Monaco
The towering cake for their 1956 wedding ceremony appeared to be quite lavish.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
The pair have chosen Claire Ptak, an American Baker with a shop in East London, to design their organic wedding cake.
