Unsolved Cases of Elderly Couples Murdered in Their Homes

Russell and Shirley Dermond had been married for more than 60 years when they were murdered in May 2014.

Mr. Dermond was found decapitated in his home in Putnam County, Ga. There was no sign of his wife.

Ten days later, her body was found floating face-down in a nearby lake. Her ankles were tethered to two 30-pound cinder blocks.

Their killer or killers have never been identified, and no motive is known.

The reward for information about the killings of Shirley and Russell Dermond has gone unclaimed. 

In 1989, Franklin McRae, 72, and his wife, Kathryn, 70, were found dead in the kitchen of their Florida home. Each had been shot in the back of the head. Police have never established a solid motive. The case remains open. 

Two ski masks were found in the couple's yard by neighborhood children. 

A family member discovered the bodies of John Stewart, 78, and Pansy Stewart, 74, in the living room of their Conroe, Ala., house in August 1995. They had been shot multiple times, and their house was ransacked. The murders have not been solved.

Aldonia and Lewis White, both 90, died in a suspicious house fire in February, police said. They had lived in the Chicago building for 60 years. 

The blaze in Aldonia and Louis White's apartment started in two locations, fire authorities said. The case remains unsolved. 

The mystery behind the deaths of Canadian billionaires Barry and Honey Sherman has not been solved. Last year, a real estate agent found their bodies hanging by belts in their Toronto home. Authorities said the husband and wife, both notable philanthropists, were victims of homicide.

The slain Canadian couple was well known in philanthropy circles. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended their funerals last year.  

Billionaire Barry Sherman and his wife, Honey, were strangled to death, Canadian authorities said. Their deaths were first listed as a murder-suicide. More than 6,000 people attended their funeral. 

Police have pleaded with the public for information about the 2011 murders of John, 69, and Geri Magee, 67.  They were found shot in the neck, execution style and placed head-to-head on the floor of their Andover, Mass., mansion. Tabloid headlines called it a "mob hit," but investigators found no evidence supporting that assertion, they said.

The night before the bodies of John and Geraldine Magee were found, their Lexus SUV was discovered burning on Prince Street in Boston. Police said the killings were an isolated, targeted attack, but the perpetrator has not been found.

Albert and Joan Musalo had been married for 53 years when they were killed in 2006 inside their luxurious residence in a gated Nevada retirement complex. Albert had been a Pan Am pilot. Joan was a stay-at-home mom. The couple's 59-year-old daughter found their bodies in their bed. The case has not been solved.
