"Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" were upset in the Best Screenplay category by the French film "Anatomy of a Fall."
The 81st Golden Globe Awards aired on CBS Sunday evening, with awards presented in 27 categories.
On the film side, it looked to be a big night for a much beloved, mononymous member of the Mattel family as “Barbie” lead all other films with nine nominations going into the evening.
Close on its heels with eight nominations is "Oppenheimer," which picked up an award early in the evening when Robert Downey Jr won Best Supporting Actor.
"Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" were also competing in the Best Screenplay category, but the Hollywood behemoths were upset by the French film "Anatomy of a Fall" whose writer and director Justine Triet took home the award with her partner Arthur Harari.
"Anatomy of a Fall" lead the awards tally early in the night when it then scored a second Golden Globe when it won for Best Motion Picture, Non-English Language.
"Oppenheimer" then tied things up when Christopher Nolan won Best Director. The film won a third award when Cillian Murphy picked up Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama honors.
On the television side, the far more polarizing and at times insufferable members of the Roy family looked to have a big night, with “Succession” leading all other series with nine nominations.
The show missed out in the Best Supporting Actress category, which went to Elizabeth Debicki for her portrayal of Princess Diana in "The Crown," but star Matthew Macfayden did win in Best Supporting Actor, beating out his "Succession" co-stars Alan Ruck and Alexander Skarsgard.
"Succession" picked up a second award when Kieran Culkin beat out Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong for Best Actor, Television Drama.
