One class pet was not looking forward to the new school year, so it made a daring escape.
Matt Steinbarth, the principal of Fond du Lac High School in Wisconsin, told WDJT that a python made a break for it and still hasn't been found.
“It popped the top off its cage and is now on a little adventure in the school unfortunately,” Steinbarth said.
The staff at Fond du Lac High School spent the first week of class searching for the wayward animal, with no luck — which is not exactly what students and parents wanted to hear after returning from a relaxing summer off.
"I was kind of spooked," said student Trinity Paavola. "I couldn't believe it. I was like, 'Wow, are you kidding? A snake?'"
The principal said the snake, named Kai, belongs to a science teacher.
Even firefighters couldn't track down the snake.
But a snake on the loose is apparently no reason to cancel classes.
"It is one of the most docile snakes that there are in nature, and their intention is never to bite or hurt anybody, so we're not too worried about that with students," said Steinbarth.
