Man Burned Trying to Set Fire to Himself in Protest Outside Trump Hotel

The man told reporters he was trying to set himself ablaze as an act of protest over Trump's election.

A man was burned Tuesday while trying to set himself on fire outside a Trump property in Washington, DC.

The man was transported to the hospital after officials say he suffered burn injuries outside of the newly opened Trump International Hotel.

Witness Michael Shoag posted about the bizarre sight on Twitter between 9 and 10 p.m.

"Man lit himself on fir in front of Trump hotel DC. Crazy!" Shoag wrote.

Shoag said the man appeared to quickly seek help. "He put fire out himself before walking to police," he tweeted.

According to local reports, the man said he set the fire as a protest against the election of Trump.

The man was treated for non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

On Twitter, Shoag expressed similar sentiments to many in D.C. as the city braces for both a massive inauguration and a potentially larger simultaneous protest.

"Crazy is the new normal in DC," wrote Shoag. "The crazy is just getting started I am guessing."
