His tweets follow the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel in the Russian/Trump investigation.

Mueller’s appointment came a week after Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey for investigating a possible Russian connection to his campaign.

“The public interest requires me to place this investigation under the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command,” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said in announcing the appointment.

The choice of Mueller caught the White House by surprise. Rosenstein reportedly did not tell the administration or Attorney General Jeff Sessions about Mueller’s appointment until after the decision was made.

Trump’s Russia investigation has taken over the cover of the new Time magazine.
