The late first lady's daughter has put the estate up for sale.
Jackie Kennedy Onassis' breathtaking oceanfront estate on Martha’s Vineyard is up for sale.
Her daughter, Caroline Kennedy, is putting it on the market for $65 million.
Her mother purchased the 340-acre sanctuary in 1979 for $1 million.
In a video posted on Christie’s real estate website, the very private Caroline gave an extraordinarily intimate look at her family enjoying her legendary mom's oasis.
“It was a perfect expression of her romantic and adventurous spirit. She loved the stone walls, the blue herons that lived in the pond behind the dunes and building a fairy tree house for her grandchildren,” she said.
Caroline's decision to sell the estate, known as Red Gate Farm, comes just weeks before the 20th anniversary of her brother JFK Jr.’s tragic death in which his small plane crashed off the coast of Martha's Vineyard with his wife and his sister-in-law on board.
Red Gate Farm is just 2 miles from the beach where wreckage from his 1999 plane crash washed ashore.
“Martha's Vineyard will always be a part of our lives. But it's time for us to follow my mother's example and create our own world. We hope that another family will treasure this place as we have,” Caroline says in the video.
Jackie O passed away in May 1994 from cancer.
