"My incredible father drove me to be the best I can," the singer said Sunday.
Janet Jackson gave a touching shout-out to her ailing father at the Radio Disney Awards over the weekend.
"My father, my incredible father drove me to be the best I can," she said of her dad, Joe Jackson, who is reportedly battling terminal cancer.
Last week, reports surfaced that the 89-year-old Jackson patriarch was battling terminal pancreatic cancer and was in his final days.
Janet Jackson, 52, paid tribute to him while receiving The Impact Award during the ceremony Sunday.
"It's beautiful, it's humbling to be recognized as someone that has had a positive impact, but if I have been fortunate enough to impact others it is only because I, myself, have been greatly impacted by positive people in my life," she said. “My mother nourished me with the most extravagant love imaginable. My father — my incredible father — drove me to be the best that I can. My siblings set an incredibly high standard for artistic excellence. … Sometimes, having an impact can be as simple as a smile, a handshake or a hug.”
Joe Jackson has not confirmed nor denied reports that he has terminal cancer, but a cryptic message was sent from his Twitter account Sunday.
“I have seen more sunsets than I have left to see,” a tweet read. "The sun rises when the time comes and whether you like it or not the sun sets when the time comes."
His granddaughter, Paris, took to social media to slam the tweet claiming that Joe Jackson did not authorize the text.
"This is a beautiful tweet," she wrote. "Though it upsets me to see whoever is in charge of this account taking advantage of it. My grandfather did not tweet this. I'm not sure if he's ever used this account."
