'You've Got Mail' Voice Elwood Edwards Dies at 74
Elwood Edwards, the original voice of AOL, has died. Edwards said his wife, who in 1989 worked for the computer company that later became America Online, volunteered his voice for a new project with a cassette tape recording. For four now iconic lines, which include "You've got mail," he only received $200. Back in 2016, Edwards told Inside Edition he was making extra money driving an Uber. Elwood Hughes Edwards died the day before his 75th birthday.
