Fashion Models Turned Urban Farmers Bring West African Food to NYC Beach

Babajide Alao and Pesy Sikyala met while working as models during New York Fashion Week in 2014. Nearly eight years later, the young couple has shifted their focus from fashion to food and farming. In 2018, they achieved their dream of serving fresh and authentic West African food to locals in their beloved New York City beach community. Since then, their business, The Cradle, has grown from food cart to brick-and-mortar restaurant to urban farm.
