How NASA Is Working to Redirect Asteroid 7 Million Miles Away With DART Program
Could an asteroid hit Earth? Hollywood has explored the premise of planet-killer asteroids before in blockbusters like “Armageddon,” “Deep Impact,” and “Don’t Look Up.” But for NASA, it’s not science fiction. Last November, NASA launched the Double Asteroid Redirection Mission, or DART, which aims to test whether asteroids can be diverted from a collision course with Earth. The asteroid they’re testing it on is 7 million miles away, and is not a danger to our planet.
