The prime minister of Ireland has resigned. In becoming the Taoiseach, the Irish term for the country’s head of state, Leo Varadkar broke boundaries. He was the youngest person ever elected to the top job and the first person who was openly a member of the LGBTQ+ community. During his term as Taoiseach, Ireland changed its constitution to legalize abortion and same sex marriage. This decision to step down came as a surprise to many.
