Journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov Awarded Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo

Philippines journalist Maria Ressa just won the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize. Ressa founded the news website Rappler, which has been critical of police abuse and Filipino president Duterte’s violent war on drugs. Ressa shared this year’s prize with Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov. He co-founded and edits a newspaper critical of the authoritarian regime of Russian president Vladimir Putin. “I was shocked and I didn’t know how to react,” Ressa told reporters.
