How Safe Are Some Kiddie Races?
Zipping around racetracks at over 70 mph, these are some of the fastest kid kart racers in the country. However, some children’s races can be dangerous. A 7-year-old tragically died in a junior drag-racing event when she lost control of her dragster. Zayne Burgess is the top youth go-kart racer in America. His parents fully support him but say they frequently fret about the dangers. In a statement, Youth Racers of America says, “With proper safety gear, the sport is incredibly safe, and when injuries do rarely occur it’s because of freak accidents or incorrect safety protocols.”
