NYPD’s Asian American Officers Combat Spike in Coronavirus-Related Hate Crimes

As hate crimes against Asian Americans rise amid the coronavirus pandemic, a special group of police officers are being deployed to combat it. Meet NYPD’s Asian Hate Crime Task Force, made up of only officers of varying Asian descent. “Having someone that speaks the language and is of your background makes it a little bit easier for [victims] to feel comfortable with going through the facts,” police officer Jacky Wong says.
