Rare Hummingbird Appears in Couple’s Yard

Homeowner and amateur birder Kristin Joseph spotted what she thought was an unusual bird in her Southern California yard. She told KCBS, “"he looked interesting and had a different vocalization so I got my binoculars out and noticed him and realized he was really special and he doesn't belong here.” She was right. It turns out the little feathered friend, affectionately known as BB, is a broad-billed hummingbird. The species is not native to the area.
