The 5-year-old Scottish lass ventured out neat as a pin for her inaugural class, with her knee socks pulled up tight, her hair brushed and pulled back with a bow, and her school tie tucked neatly into her black skirt.
When she emerged at the end of the day, she looked much worse for wear. Her tie was askew, one of her knee socks was at half mast, her shirttails were in full view and her hair appeared as if she'd stuck her head in mixing bowl.
"When I went to pick her up from school and saw how she looked, I was mortified," her mother, Jillian Falconer, told the Barrhead News.
"I asked her what she had been doing at school and she said, 'Oh nothing, I just played with my friends.'''
The mum posted before-and-after photos online of her wee girl's first day of school, and they of course went viral, with tickled parents weighing in with their own tales of epic fails in their children's academic wardrobe departments.
"Her dad had messaged me from work, asking how her first day went," Falconer added. "And I said to him, 'You won't believe the state she's in.'"
