She believes he rolled onto the pacifier creating suction on his skin.
A mother is warning other parents to be careful after her 7-month-old son was blistered when a pacifier suction-cupped his face.
Kristen Milhone, of Michigan, said she noticed the mark on her son’s face when she picked him up out of his bassinet last Wednesday.
"He had this big old bump on the side of his head and it was red and really inflamed," Milhone told InsideEdition.com. "There was these blisters that were yellow and just starting to form ... It just reminded me of a chemical burn so I kind of freaked out a little bit."
The mom took her son, Jack, to the emergency room, where doctors struggled to come up with a diagnosis until she revealed he’d been sleeping with the pacifier in his crib.
Doctors measured the diameter of the burn as compared to the shape of Jack’s Philips Avent Soothie pacifier, often given to babies in the hospital, determining that's what caused the blister to appear.
Doctors said they believe the pacifier may have suctioned his face, causing the burn.
“The binky had fallen out of his mouth and then he had rolled onto it,” Milhone concluded. “You put your kids [to bed] thinking they are safe and these things you really might trust turn out to be dangerous.”
Jack was prescribed antibiotics for the welt, but Milhone worries the blistered skin could leave behind a scar. She is now warning parents not to allow their kids to sleep with that brand of pacifier.
“If you are going to use it, take it away from them as soon as they fall asleep. Especially when they start rolling around, don’t let them sleep with it in the crib," Milhone said.
