Police said it's not clear what prompted the shooting.
A Texas police officer who shot and killed her neighbor in his own apartment will be charged with manslaughter, authorities said.
The Dallas police officer, whose name has not been released, told authorities she mistakenly thought the apartment of her neighbor, 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean, was her own when she entered it on Thursday.
"Right now, there are more questions than answers,"Chief Ulysha Renee Hall said Friday during a press conference. "A female Dallas police officer returned to what she believed to be her apartment after her shift ended -- she was still in uniform when she encountered Mr. Jean inside the apartment.”
It is not clear what prompted the shooting but the officer shot Jean and then called police.
Police called the situation “very unique.”
They also added the officer was tested for drugs and alcohol afterward.
Police said they will release the officer’s name once she has been formally charged.
Jean was a graduate of Harding University in Arkansas and was said to be an active member at his church, according to reports.
Jean’s mother said the news was devastating.
"It just feels like a nightmare. I wish I could wake up," Allison Jean told NBC News. "He impacted the lives of many. I'm getting calls from all over the world."
