It's the latest tragedy in the Kennedy family.
The Kennedy family is in mourning as the granddaughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy died of a suspected drug overdose at the family compound in Hyannis Port Thursday.
Saoirse Kennedy, 22, was found dead inside the Massachusetts home of RFK’s 91-year-old widow, Ethel.
“Patient reported to be unresponsive but is conscious,” a 911 dispatcher was recorded saying. “On scene. Confirming cardiac arrest.”
Saoirse was the only daughter of Courtney Kennedy and Paul Hill, who was an accused IRA bomber, serving 14 years in prison before his conviction was overturned.
Saoirse had struggled after a sexual assault in her teens.
"I totally lost it after someone I knew and loved broke serious sexual boundaries with me," she wrote in 2016. "I pretended it hadn't happened...I attempted to take my own life."
She did not reveal who had assaulted her.
The legendary Kennedy compound has been the family's refuge for generations. It was John F. Kennedy's "summer White House."
This summer marks the 20th anniversary of the tragic death of JFK Jr., who was killed in a plane crash as he was piloting himself, his wife and sister-in-law to Martha’s Vineyard from New York.
It is also the 10th anniversary of Ted Kennedy’s death, who succumbed to brain cancer, and the 50th anniversary of his Chappaquiddick scandal.
Now, the family who gathered at the compound just a month ago for July 4th is coming together again to mourn yet another tragedy.
