The Duchess of Cambridge was driven from Kensington Palace to the private wing of a London hospital early Monday.
It’s a boy!
Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, have welcomed their third child.
Baby No. 3 joins big brother George, 4, and big sister Charlotte, 2.
The little bundle of joy was born weighing 8 pounds and 7 ounces. The palace reported that mom and baby are doing well and that the Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.
Kate gave birth at St. Mary's Hospital in London, where crowds have been gathering for days in hopes of catching a glimpse of the newest royal. Dad William escorted George and Charlotte into the hospital to meet their new brother, with Charlotte adorably waving to the crowd outside.
George and Charlotte were also born at the hospital, and Princess Diana gave birth to William there in 1982.
Kensington Palace previously announced the medical team would be led by Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston, who delivered Charlotte in May 2015.
The baby is now fifth in line to the British throne behind Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The child also bumps Prince Harry down another notch in the line of succession.
The baby is Queen Elizabeth’s sixth great-grandchild.
Clinical psychologist Dr. Jolie Silva of New York Behavioral Health speculated what sort of child Baby No. 3 may be. The third-born child in a family is often agreeable, open and rebellious, she said, citing Adler’s birth order theory.
“When they grow up to be adults, they might be viewed as more trustworthy, as moral, do better in team-building types of tasks and altruism and those types of things,” she said.
“There is also some correlation between the youngest child and openness — openness to new experiences, which might lead to artistic kind of careers."
Silva continued, "The youngest tends to be more rebellious — now that might not necessarily be a negative quality, but it might be something that brings on more imagination and more creativity."
Last year, the palace announced the child was due in April but the exact due date was never made public.
Kate suffered hyperemesis gravidarum, a type of morning sickness, which forced the palace to reveal the pregnancy in September, when she was less than three months pregnant.
It’s a big year for the royals. Next month, Prince Harry will marry Meghan Markle at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
