Sarah Hyland Faces Backlash After Admitting to Doubling Up on Spanx for Party

Mara Schiavocampo, correspondent for "The Dr. Oz Show," explained why it's not a good idea to wear two pairs of Spanx.

Sarah Hyland is facing backlash after revealing she wore not one but two pairs of Spanx to Vanity Fair's Oscars party

"Fun fact. I'm wearing TWO pairs of spanx," she tweeted. "Why diet? When you can just hide it!"

Reaction was swift.

"Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard," one person wrote on Twitter. "She doesn't have an ounce of fat."

"You think you need to wear two spanx. Horrible body image advice," added another.

But the 28-year-old actress hit back at her critics.

"When you have two kidney transplants and are on steroids for life get back to me," she wrote.

A year ago, Hyland showed off her scars to Self magazine, speaking out about how her abdomen protrudes as a result of the medical crisis.

But experts don't recommend turning to double pairs of Spanx.

Mara Schiavocampo, correspondent for "The Dr. Oz Show," explained why it's not a good idea.

"It's totally understandable why someone like Sarah Hyland would want to try to mask the bulge from her transplant surgery. She's an actress, she's on the red carpet, she's going to want to look and feel her best like everyone else," said Schiavocampo.

"But," she warned, "if you have had some sort of transplant you should really check with your doctor especially if are planning to double your shapewear because it really is constricting all of your internal organs."
