A high school student's random act of kindness has gone viral.
A high school student with a big heart saved money from her first job to buy a classmate a new pair of shoes.
Video of the touching gift-giving has gone viral and shows her friend breaking down in tears after receiving the sneakers.
Sofi Cruz Turner said her friend, Jahiem, had hinted he needed new shoes. She described him on Facebook as a student who always hands in his assignments on time, "never misses school, always helping the teacher out with stuff in class, and always being a happy human being."
Turner wrote that she had know Jahiem since third grade, when they were in Mrs. Dragotta's elementary school class in Conway, South Carolina. She knew, she sad, that Jahiem didn't want to sound like he was in need when he mentioned wanting a pair of shoes.
The teenage girl had been "working very hard" at her job and managed to save enough money, along with help from her mother and grandfather, to buy the boy a pair of sneakers and a new shirt.
She presented the gifts to Jahiem as he sat at his desk in class, surrounded by classmates who smiled as Turner approached him, bearing gifts inside a backpack.
"You are special to me," she told him as she pulled out his new shoes. Smiling shyly and looking down, he managed to keep his composure until Turner wrapped her arms around him. Then he put his head down and cried.
"When giving him his stuff and watching him open his bag, all my emotions were coming out. Seeing him crying was very emotional because I could see that he was didn’t know what to think," she wrote later on her Facebook page.
"I am so thankful to know that giving Jahiem those shoes made him so happy and allowing me to realize that giving someone something so special can be life changing," she said.
