Michael Avenatti, the fiery attorney who took on President Trump, has been arrested on domestic violence charges.
Michael Avenatti, the fiery lawyer who represents porn star Stormy Daniels and has loudly taken on President Trump, was arrested Wednesday on domestic violence charges, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The alleged incident took place Tuesday and a report was taken, authorities said. Police did not immediately release details of the incident.
Avenatti later made bail on Wednesday evening, after which he spoke to a group of reporters to tell them he will be “fully exonerated.”
"I have never struck a woman. I never will strike a woman. I have been an advocate for women’s rights my entire career and I’m going to continue to be an advocate. I am not going to be intimidated from stopping what I am doing," he said. "I am a father to two beautiful, smart daughters. I would never disrespect them by touching a woman inappropriately or striking a woman.
"I am looking forward to a full investigation at which point I am confident I will be fully exonerated. I also want to thank everyone for their support that has reached out. You know my character. You know me as a man and I appreciate it."
The 47-year-old attorney represents Daniels in her fight to nullify a non-disclosure agreement she signed with Trump during his 2016 campaign for the White House. The deal was predicated on a payment she received to say nothing publicly about an alleged affair the two had a decade ago.
Avenatti, an outspoken critic of the president, also represented a woman who accused Brett Kavanaugh of inappropriate sexual conduct before he was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
