Tiffany Haddish Reveals Struggle of Caring for Her Mother Following Devastating Car Accident

The actress says her mother's head went through the windshield, but she survived.

Tiffany Haddish is opening up the car accident that changed her life in a Facebook Red Table Talk with friend Jada Pinkett Smith.

During her sit down with her "Girl’s Trip" co-star, Haddish explained her mother had a bad car wreck where "her head went through a windshield and she survived it."

Haddish said it took her mother three months to learn how to walk and talk again, adding, “then it took a long time for her memories to come back."

The comic was just 8 years old at the time of the accident. Now 38, she got emotional as she told Pinkett Smith, "I remember being at the hospital and the doctors saying that she will never be the same and you are going to have to help her a lot more."

The star is using her success to help her mom. She says she is "proud of myself and her."

In December, Haddish said she was able to get her mother out of a mental institution, as well as the best medical care.

Haddish also bought her mother an apartment in Ingelwood, Calif., where her sister lives as well.

“I’m like, ‘I’ll cover the rent, you cover everything else on mama's side,” Haddish said of the deal she made with her sister.

At one point in the interview, Pinkett Smith asked, “How did it make you feel when she told you she was proud of you?”

"Girl, it took everything in my heart not to just breakdown and cry," Haddish said.
