Fugitive Kayla Irizarry taunted police and then got nabbed, authorities said.

Rule No. 1 when hiding from police: don't contact the police.

Kayla Irizzary, a Washington teen wanted on charges of possession of a handgun and heroin, bragged on the Facebook page of the Moses Lake Police Department about how she was eluding authorities.

In one post, made under her own account, the 19-year-old fugitive taunted: "Here's a hint of where I'm at: Not in jail." She also put up a smiley face icon with a tongue sticking out.

The department wrote back, informing her that bragging about one's escape "is the number one killer of criminal karma."

Officers using "covert investigative techniques" on social media set up a meeting with Irizzary for 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Police didn't reveal their methods or why Irizzary showed up.

But show up she did, and then bolted when she realized she had been set up, authorities said. "She was caught in about four steps and booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of possession of a firearm and possession of heroin," the department posted on Facebook.

It all started earlier this month with traffic stop of Giovanni Powell, 27, police said. He was arrested for driving with a suspended license, and for being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, police said.

Irizarry was a passenger in the vehicle but was released after police found no evidence of wrongdoing, they said.

The vehicle was later searched after a warrant was obtained. Inside, police said they found Irizarry's purse, which contained a pistol, heroin and paperwork from a recent jail release.

She remains in custody at the Grant County Jail.
