News that their relationship was ending sent social media into hysterics over the weekend.
Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s whirlwind romance may have seemed perfect, but looking back, there were warning signs all was not well.
During their five-month romance, including a four-month engagement, the PDA-obsessed comedian and pop star got at least 15 tattoos for each other. Early on, Davidson showed off a new tattoo on his neck – a pair Grande’s signature bunny ears.
However, a photo taken last Monday – six days before reports of their split – showed a different tattoo on his neck. A solid black heart appeared to have covered up the bunny ears.
Grande was supposed to be the musical guest for the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live" two weeks ago, but backed out last minute, citing “emotional reasons.” Her ex rapper Mac Miller died unexpectedly just weeks before she was supposed to appear on Davidson's show.
During the same show, Davidson joked about breaking up with the “No Tears Left to Cry” singer.
“Obviously I wanted [a prenup]. God forbid we split up and she takes half of my sneakers,” he said. “You know, I don’t even get royalties for that ‘Pete Davidson’ song? Like, if we break up, and we won’t – we will – but we won’t. I’m kidding. But like, in 10 years, if God forbid that ever happened, there will be a song called ‘Pete Davidson’ playing in speakers at Kmart and I’ll be working there.”
Even though entertainment’s power couple split up shortly after the skit, sources say they were lovey dovey just hours before.
“There were so many things working against them,” relationship expert Andrea Syrtash told Inside Edition.
She explained their short relationship and young age were most likely to blame for the breakup, in addition to Miller’s death last month.
“People speculated from day one that this wouldn’t last,” Syrtash said. “[Grande] had recently lost her ex-boyfriend and was mourning that […] losing him would have been a major chapter in her life.”
