Construction worker Derek Hinkley was helping to build a wooden play pirate ship when the incident happened.
A man who accidentally shot himself in the leg with a nail gun documented his entire ordeal, from the moment he shot himself to right up to when doctors got ready to remove it.

At first, Hinkley tried to use pliers to get it out, but that failed, so he called 911 for help.
As he was taken to the hospital, he continued to record. The camera rolled even while doctors got ready to have the nail surgically removed.
Hinkley is thankful he's OK.
"It really did not hit anything major," Hinkley told Inside Edition. "It just went into my muscle fibers. That was painful, but it could have been a lot worse."
