The royal couple were criticized for speaking out on environmental issues while flying on private planes.
Prince Harry is hitting back at critics claiming he and wife Meghan Markle are hypocrites for speaking out on environmental issues while flying on private planes.
“I came here by commercial. I spend 99% of my life traveling the world by commercial. Occasionally, there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure my family are safe and it’s genuinely as simple as that,” he said Monday at a travel industry conference in Amsterdam.
However, Harry added that being royal isn't necessarily an exception.
“We can all do better and while no one is perfect, we all have a responsibility for our own individual impact,” he added. “The question is what we do to balance it out.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have purchased carbon offsets in effort to balance out their impact by flying.
The royal couple took heat from the press last month after they flew four private planes while on vacation to Spain and the French Riviera.
Their friend Elton John, who was especially close to Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, defended the couple and blasted the press, saying that one of the planes was his that he allowed them to borrow it.
“I'm calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character,” he said.
