A two-time cancer survivor from Oregon may consider himself the luckiest man on Earth after winning $4.6 million in the state’s lottery.
Stu MacDonald spent $1 on an Oregon’s Game Megabucks ticket on Sept. 7 that turned out to possibly be the best financial investment of his life as he hit the jackpot.
The Bend resident said he buys a ticket each week, and his wife, Claudia, always offers up the same piece of advice — “Get the winning ticket.” Now, it has finally happened.
“I am a very lucky guy,” he said in a press release issued by the state lottery. “I have survived cancer twice and here I am. This is amazing.”
MacDonald has opted to take the lump sum of the earnings, which means he will get $2.3 million before taxes.
Ashley’s Cafe, where he purchased the ticket, will get a seller’s bonus of 1 percent or $46,000.
“We are thrilled to learn that we sold a Megabucks jackpot. We are excited for the team who sold the ticket. A big congratulations to our guests on their windfall,” Tezra Kong, director of operations for Ashley’s, told the state lottery. “Some of the seller’s bonus will go back to the team that strive to delight our guests every day here at Ashley’s in Wagner Mall.”
