Why does your whole timeline seem to be kicking the caps off of bottles?
Welcome to social media's latest sensation: #TheBottleCapChallenge.
A glass or plastic bottle with a twist-off cap is centered on a table or held by someone else. The goal is to give the bottle a roundhouse kick that spins the cap off.
As you can imagine, it’s a little harder to do than it sounds.
Jason Statham, John Mayer and Ellie Goulding are just some of the big names to master the challenge.
The New York Post reported that the whole thing started when Taekwondo champion Farabi Davletchin posted an Instagram video of himself achieving the feat. He then challenged a fashion designer to do the same, and a domino effect ensued.
MMA fighters Max Holloway and Jon Jones, kickboxer John Valenitini, and UFC fighter-turned-boxer Conor McGregor have all shared videos of themselves on social media doing the challenge. McGregor even called on his opponent both in and out of the ring, boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, to step up.
Comments on the videos have been almost as entertaining as the videos themselves.
“So bad a**,” one user wrote.
“You have to slam a shot back after you spin the cap off!” another said.
