Animal Rights Groups Evacuate Former Ukrainian Circus Bear to Safety in Romania
March 25, 2022
A former Ukrainian circus bear has crossed the border to safety and freedom. Masha, a Eurasian brown bear, was born in captivity and spent most of her life performing in a traveling circus. For 19 years, she lived in a small cage, and reportedly has a scar left by the muzzle. Several charities worked together to transport Masha 140 miles out of Ukraine and into neighboring Romania, where she will live the rest of her days on a 170-acre sanctuary.
