Former Mayor Says Barber Helped Him Stop Being a ‘Bigot’

A haircut and a shave can often make a person feel good, but Jeff Comerchero says a trip to the barber shop made him realize, in his words, that he was a bigot. Comerchero is the former mayor of Temecula, California, a conservative town about 85 miles south of Los Angeles. EJ Radford, who identifies as queer non-binary, was his barber. During haircuts, the two say they became friends and Comerchero was educated beyond his prejudices.
