Are Book Bans a 'Hoax?'
Are books being banned in the United States? According to a recent announcement by the US Department of Education under President Trump, the answer is "no." The Civil Rights division of the DOE announced that it was dismissing nearly a dozen complaints of book bans, calling those efforts part of a "book ban hoax." Civil rights and first amendment groups were quick to respond. PEN America issued a graphic that read, "IT'S NOT A HOAX."
