Evan Gershkovich Convicted of Espionage at Trial in Russia: WSJ

July 19, 2024

The American journalist on trial for espionage in Russia has been convicted. Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich was sentenced to 16 years in a penal colony after a three-day hearing held in secret. Video of Gershkovich, 32, with his head shaved, shows the moment he received the news in court. While the outcome was expected, the Wall Street Journal still slammed the Russian government.
