Robert Thomas used to own District 1960 nightclub in Houston, Texas, before the pandemic came along. When he learned his business was deemed non-essential and had to close, he knew he had to pivot. Little did he know, the idea he had to reopen as a grocery store would lead him to blaze a trail in the Black community. “Right now, everything in here comes from a Black vendor,” he says.
