    At Least 28 Pilot Whales Die After Being Stranded on Beach

    Four pods of whales, totaling about 160 pilot whales, washed up on the beaches of Western Australia. More than 100 volunteers hit the sand to help the marine mammals find their way back home. Scientists say they don't understand exactly why whales become stranded on beaches. Some researchers believe humans may have a hand in why some whale pods swim on shore. According to the department of Parks and Wildlife Service Western Australia, at least 28 pilot whales died in this stranding.
