Missouri Tree Service Finds Civil War Cannonball in Old Piece of Wood
A tree service found a piece of history when it cut open an old piece of wood: a cannonball. "I was splitting wood," said Jeff Eastham, "and a cannonball fell out of it." The 2- to 3-pound relic dates back to the Civil War. It happened in Independence, Missouri. The town was the site of two Civil War battles. Both the First and Second Battles of Independence resulted in Confederate victories. Traces of that history remain embedded in the landscape.
