Mother of 2X Olympic Rifle Shooter Killed as Innocent Bystander in Connecticut

Mabel Martinez Antongiorgi, mother of two-time Olympic rifle shooter Yarimar Mercado Martinez, was shot and killed while sewing inside her Connecticut home. Authorities say she was not the intended target of the shooting outside of her Waterbury home on Saturday. But she was struck by a bullet, and succumbed to her injuries the following day. Mercado Martinez paid tribute to her mother on Instagram, writing in part, “There are so many things I still needed to learn from you.”
