Smedley Butler Was Marine Hero Who Called Himself a ‘Racketeer for Capitalism’

Smedley Butler was one of the most decorated U.S. Marines of the 20th century, yet by the end of his career, he grew to renounce many of the things he’d done. Butler is the subject of journalist Jonathan M. Katz’s new book, “Gangsters of Capitalism: Smedley Butler, the Marines, and the Making and Breaking of America's Empire.” Katz told Inside Edition Digital that Butler’s critiques of U.S. policy and his own actions make him a “really fascinating and really unique character in American history.”
