108-Year-Old Polish Pianist and Her Piano Are Testaments to Survival

As Wanda Zarzycka opens her piano and starts to play, you can hear how her music is seasoned by the years. A resident of the Polish city of Krakow, Wanda is 108 years old. William Howard Taft was the U.S. president when she was born. Her piano has seen some history as well. It was a wedding present to her mother. During World War II, Zarzycka was living in western Ukraine, a region that saw devastating fighting. To protect their piano, her family hid the instrument in a shed in the countryside. @Nick Poppy
