In 2002, as “American Idol” was getting ready to crown its first winner, Aretha Franklin shared her thoughts with Inside Edition. Franklin praised finalist Kelly Clarkson and predicted she’d have a successful career. But she also had kind words for fellow finalist Justin Guarini, saying she’d love for him to open for her.
