A 21-gun salute, the country’s first president and a billionaire mogul were honored as Barbados sheds the last remaining vestiges of their colonial bonds to Britain. The island-nation, which is now a republic, held a grand ceremony removing Queen Elizabeth II as monarch and installing the first-ever president to preside over Barbados, Sandra Mason.
