Congress Reconvenes to Officially Certify the Results of the 2020 Presidential Election
January 7, 2021
After a tumultuous day and night in Washington D.C., the results of the 2020 presidential election were certified. Vice President Mike Pence presided over the largely ceremonial joint meeting of the House and Senate. The process was halted earlier in the day because of pro-Trump rioters breaking into the Capitol building. The Senate and House reconvened later in the evening to certify the electoral college votes.
