Family Remembers Horrific Boat Fire That Killed 34 Off South California Coast

It’s an emotional day for Heather Sawdon as she returns to the harbor, one year after a horrific boat fire took the lives of 34 people, including her sister, Kristy. A marine biologist who loved the water, Kristy died in what was one of the deadliest accidents at sea in modern history. On Labor Day Weekend 2019, the Conception Dive Boat caught fire 25 miles off the coast of southern California. Five crew members were able to escape, but couldn’t reach sleeping passengers surrounded by flames.
