Former Students Surprise Teacher Living Out of His Car With $27,000

Former students of Jose Villarruel, who has been living in his car, surprised him on his 77th birthday with a $27,000 check. At the start of the pandemic, his hours were cut, making life difficult. Villarruel says “I couldn't possibly support my family in Mexico and rent an  apartment here at the same time.” Former pupil Steven Nava would see Villarruel on his way to work and decided to help by starting an online fundraiser.
