Haitian Prime Minister Resigns Amid Violence
March 12, 2024
Haiti’s prime minister has resigned. Ariel Henry was never elected to be head of Haiti’s government. He was appointed prime minister after then- President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated in July of 2021. Henry was out of the country on a trip to Kenya, when organized gang violence broke thousands of inmates out of jail and took over police stations. This resignation was announced from Puerto Rico where he is currently, because the prime minister’s plane was prevented from landing in Haiti.
