Hospital Chef Creates Blowtorch Portraits of His Fellow Frontline Workers

Nelson Cardenas takes pride in cooking healthy meals for the patients at Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. But outside of the kitchen, Cardenas is also passionate about creating beautiful works of art with a technique called pyrography. When the hospital asked Cardenas to create a mural honoring healthcare heroes, Cardenas turned to his colleagues for inspiration. His six portraits of doctors, nurses and maintenance staff now welcome everyone who walks through the hospital's doors.
