Japan Observes 75th Anniversary of Atomic Bombing at Hiroshima
August 6, 2020
People in Japan marked a somber occasion on August 6: the 75th anniversary of the world’s first atomic bombing. The United States dropped the bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima in August of 1945. Days later, a second bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki. Families set paper lanterns afloat near the site of the bomb’s epicenter, while Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe was among those laying wreaths at a ceremony in Hiroshima.
